Terry Randal Smith

TERRY RANDAL "T.R." SMITH, 69, of North Little Rock, Ark. passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 in the care of Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilma D. Jr. "G.D." and Ernestine (Holthoff) Smith, and his brother Gilma D. "Buddy" Smith III. He is survived by his two sisters, Claudette Hunnicutt (Don) and Tommye Alexander; his four children John David Smith (Lesley) of Fayetteville, Ark., Sunny Marie Smith Harp (Adam) of Conway, Ark., Clayton Holthoff Smith, and Grant Kell Smith, both of North Little Rock, Ark.; his grandchildren, Jedidiah Smith, Piper Smith, Savannah Harp, Jaxson Harp, Luke Smith, John-Alex Harp, Noah Smith, and Sadie Marie Smith. Terry was born in Pine Bluff, Ark. on Nov. 15, 1946. He grew up in Star City, Ark. which he liked to refer to as "Twinkle Town". He graduated from Star City High School in 1964 and went to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. There he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated in 1968 from the U of A, Fayetteville, Ark. with a BA in Business and Finance. After graduating, Terry moved home to Star City, Ark., to own and operate G.D. Smith Mercantile Store, a family business since 1921, formerly owned by his grandparents Gilma D. Smith Sr. and Jewel Adams Smith. He operated Smith's Clothing Store and Farmer's Gin from 1968-1986. He was a board member of the Planters Cotton Oil Mill in Pine Bluff, Ark. Terry was also a certified referee for football and refereed High School football games over 10 years. After selling his family businesses, Terry took the Series 7 Exam also known as the General Securities Representative Exam, where he scored in the top 5% in the USA. He then went to work in Little Rock, Ark. for E.F. Hutton as an Investment Broker and had a career with multiple investment and brokerage firms until he retired. He had a quick wit, great sense of humor and a very charismatic personality. He had many friends from all over the State of Arkansas and beyond. Terry also read and studied his Bible often, one of his favorite verses was Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." He was very proud of his children and their many accomplishments. He enjoyed playing golf in his hay day and was a excellent golfer. If you asked him what one of his greatest accomplishments were, he might say, "I was a four year All-State candidate in three sports." And then he would point out that everyone was a candidate. He stayed true to his Alma Mater as an enthusiastic Razorback fan and supporter. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
