Lois Hogg Lea

Lois Hogg Lea, 97, of White Hall, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2015 at Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff. She was born Oct. 25, 1917 in Pine Bluff, daughter of Harvey and Gussie Murphy Hogg. Mrs. Lea was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. She was awarded the Simmons Scholarship and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Hendrix College in Conway. Mrs. Lea also attended graduate school at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She taught school in Crossett before moving back to Pine Bluff, where she taught at Pine Bluff High School for three years. Mrs. Lea worked for E.B. and F.R. Bloom Insurance Agency for six years before venturing into retail. She opened the Vogue Shoppe in 1965 and co-owned and managed the store in Jefferson Square for about 17 years until her retirement. Mrs. Lea was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church. She was secretary of the Jefferson Square Merchant's Association for 10 years and member of the Pilot Club of Pine Bluff from 1967 until it disbanded in 2003. After retirement, Mrs. Lea was active in the White Hall Band Booster Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Lea Sr., whom she married Feb. 17, 1949 in Pine Bluff; her son, George A. Lea Jr.; her parents; and sister, Helen Hogg Alexander. Survivors include her three grandchildren, George A. Lea, III and his wife, Rexanna, of White Hall, Robert Quinn Lea and his wife, Brittany, of Little Rock and Anne Lea Parelkar and her husband, Nikhil, of Kansas City, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan Lea, Andrew Lea, Aubrey Lea and Collin Jackson. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Susan Carter Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson's.
