Omer Guinn

Omer "Sandy" E. Guinn, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday Oct. 9, 2015. Omer was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Winslow, Ark. to John Guinn and Grace Lehn Guinn. Omer was a godly man who loved his church, spending time with family, and helping others. Omer was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Fayetteville & former member of Goshen Church of the Nazarene. Omer was most happy when all the family was gathered together for meals, playing games & watching the Razorbacks or the St. Louis Cardinals. On May 3, 1941, he married the love of his life, Ardeth Euva Hanson. They spent over 58 happy years together. Omer was a veteran of the U. S. Marines and served in the Iwo Jima campaign. He currently has four great grandchildren serving in the United States Marine Corp. Omer is most remembered for owning and operating Guinn's Grocery, Feed & Gas Store, Laundry Mat and Car Wash for well over 30 years. In addition he hauled cattle, bulls, horses, feed, cement blocks & fertilizer for over 50 years. Omer held the first franchise for Arkhola Block in the Fayetteville area in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He served many years with the Goshen RCI, the Goshen Fire Department serving as president for many years, the Goshen Riding Club, and as a member of the Washington County Mounted Patrol. Most recently he has served on the board of the Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 41 years spending over 10 years as President. Omer is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, a brother, Howard Guinn; sisters Violet Bernice Guinn, Joye Cooper, Gladys Harp and Helen Watson, a son-in-law David Phillips, a granddaughter Christen Guinn, and a great-grandchild. Omer is survived by three sons Cary and his wife Sonna of Goshen, Clarence and his wife Debi of Rogers, Chris and his wife Janis of Springdale and one daughter Euva Phillips of Springdale. Omer is also survived by a brother, CL Guinn of Goshen and a sister, Thelma Culwell of Fayetteville. He is also survived by grandchildren Ken Guinn & wife, Melanie, of Ft. Smith, Barry Guinn of Madison, Wisc., Kayla McCarville, and husband, Michael, of Goshen, Brian Guinn, and wife Leah, of Centerton, Jonathan Phillips of Springdale, Brittany O'Dell, and husband Justin, of Fayetteville, Kara Phillips of Springdale, Tiffany Gulledge, and husband, James, of Elkins, and Michael Millsap, and wife, Lisa, of Bella Vista, 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr, Cordell and the Veteran's Hospital and all the caregivers of Circle of Life Hospice who provided such compassionate care in his final days. Visitation will be 5 p.m.–7 p.m. Monday Oct. 12, 2015 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2857 N. Old Missouri Road, in Fayetteville. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene in Fayetteville with Pastors Larry Woodward and Timothy Bullington officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. Pall Bearers will be his grandsons: Ken Guinn, Barry Guinn, Brian Guinn, Jonathan Phillips, Michael McCarville, Justin O'Dell, Michael Millsap and James Gulledge. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Manager and Board members of the Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Memorial donations may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 2857 Old Missouri Rd., Fayetteville, Ark., 72703; or to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, Ark., 72762.
