Raymond T. Hess

Raymond T. Hess, a resident of Conway, died October 22, 2015 at the age of 87. He was born October 27, 1927 in Wynne to the late John Joseph and Rose (Snyder) Hess. In his early years, he was a farmer and a military veteran. In 1953, Ray married Dorothy Moll at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, Ark. In 1956, he moved to Orange, California and began work at Western Union. While he was in Orange, he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, bowling teams and Optimist Club. In 1981, he transferred with Western Union and moved to Conway, Ark. He became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, rose to a 4th degree Knight, was President of Westgate for many years and spent his spare time helping others. Ray was a devout Catholic and took many pilgrimages to places such as Rome, Medjugorje, Jerusalem and Mexico. He prayed the rosary daily, frequently attending daily mass and was a Eucharistic Minister to the sick. Ray is preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy, his brother Billy Hess, two sisters: Rose Marie Long and Agnes Sorce, and five brothers-in-law: John Hylle, Ben Long, Otto Boeckmann, Ben Buergler and Bob Sorce. Ray is survived by his four children: Thomas R. (Jackie) Hess of Sammamish, WA, Alicia (Don) Ludolph of Huntington Beach, Calif., Tim (Vicky) Hess of Conway, and Mary Hess of Conway, four brothers: Albert (Barbara) Hess, Gilbert (Margie) Hess, Paul (Joan) Hess, Bobby (Carol) Hess all of Wynne, five sisters: Clara Hylle and Margaret Boeckmann of Wynne, Betty Buergler and Ruth Wilson of Morristown, Tenn., and Dorothy (Ron) Dettlinger of Greenville, Ind., one foster brother: Larry Poland of Fairbanks, Alaska, 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Melissa Hight, Carol Barnes, and Hospice Home Care for the loving care of Ray for the last eight months, also to John Zeiler, Joe Baldwin, and Doc Kordsmeier for their friendship and service. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, with visitation to follow. Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday October 26, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
