Royce Allen Flynn, 83, of Sherwood, Ark. died, September 10, 2015. He was born March 11, 1932 in Colfax, Washington to the late Gladis and Lawrence Flynn of Spokane, Washington. He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, Spokane Technical School, Spokane, Washington and a graduate of Allen Hancock College, Santa Maria, California. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953; assigned in the U.S., Hawaii, Korean Theatre and Pacific Area. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to December, 1978 serving in many parts of the world with assignments across the U.S., Canada, Far East and visits to Europe. Royce retired from the USAF after 28 1/2 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant. He served at the Pentagon, Washington, DC on the Air Staff as the "First" First Sergeant Functional Manager for the Air Force. He was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the 308th Missile Wing, Little Rock, Arkansas and the 44th Strategic Missile Wing, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Over the years Royce served at various bases as a Senior Enlisted Advisor, First Sergeant and Maintenance Superintendent. He was a Trainer and Traveling Missile Systems Inspector and Trouble Shooter. He assisted in research and development of the Titan I Missile Launcher System in Greenwich, Conn., where he wrote the Parliamentary Electrical Training Manuals for the Titan Launcher System. Royce also retired as Director of Maintenance and Engineering at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Little Rock, Ark., and after retirement worked as an agent with his late wife Pat at Sherwood Realty, Sherwood, Ark. Royce was also an inventor who held a number of copyrights and patents, one of which is the RV Tow Defender, and the Exact Cut Gift Wrap Paper Sizer. In his later years he worked as a Technical Rep for Roadmaster, Inc. training and promoting RV Products. In 1972 Governor Dale Bumpers appointed Royce as a Goodwill Ambassador and Arkansas Traveler for Arkansas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock, Ark. Survivors are his wife, Coeta L. Flynn, sons Michael Flynn and wife Sandra; Mark Flynn and wife Jill of Sherwood, Ark.; daughter Kelly Morrison and husband Daryl of Columbia, Illinois; grandchildren Shelly Morrison, Kimberly Shaddrick and husband Danny, Jeremy Flynn and wife Elicia, Becky Flynn, and a great grandson, Mr. Bryce Daniel Shaddrick. Royce was preceded in death by an infant daughter Nancy Michelle and his first wife of 58 1/2 years Verna "Pat" McCollum Flynn. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hill Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., Sherwood, Ark. Interment at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland, North Little Rock, Ark. Visitation will be Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Rd., Sherwood, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church Music Fund, 6701 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116.
