Vivian Hilburn Carter, 92, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, September 28, 2015. She was born January 27, 1923 in Yell County, daughter of Thomas Andrew and Ocie Mae Ornsby Hilburn. Mrs. Carter was reared and received her early education in Desha County. She continued her education by traveling and became known as "the world traveler" to her many friends. She was a very patriotic woman. During World War II, she was a Rosie Riveter. In later years, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of Amaranth, Daughters of the Nile and White Shrine. Mrs. Carter worked as a teletype operator at the Pine Bluff Commercial for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, where she was a member of the Hannah Sunday School Class. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, W. Lloyd Carter, whom she married December 22, 1944 in Reno, Nevada; son, Thomas Lynn Carter; her parents; two brothers, James Hilburn and Johnny Marion "Cowboy" Hilburn; and two sisters, Lena Morman and Lela Spainhour. Survivors include her two daughters, Betty Taylor and her husband, Carter, of Rison and Johnnye Woodle and her husband, Buster, of Ward; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverends Kenneth Thornton and Ike Mohr officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson's.
