Gene Foster Gardner, 72, of Conway passed away peacefully on March 30, 2016. He was born June 3, 1943 in Tinsman, Ark. to the late Vertie Lee and Loyce Samuel Gardner. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Forest E. Gardner. Gene was a graduate of the Business College at the University of Central Arkansas and earned a degree in theology from St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, Okla. He enjoyed a successful career in the telecommunications industry for over 40 years. Gene was a tireless volunteer devoted to his community. He served in numerous civic organizations such as the Lions Club, Optimist Club, Kiwanis, and most recently, The Rotary Club of Conway. He also served on the board of The Salvation Army. As a faithfully committed member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Conway, Gene could always be counted on to serve others. He was active on the Bazaar and Marian Conference Committees, involved in the Men's Bible Study program and taught Sunday School. He also served as an usher and participated in Eucharistic Adoration for many years. As a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Gene held numerous positions. As a Third Degree member, he held positions of Grand Knight and District Deputy. In the Fourth Degree, Gene served as Faithful Navigator, Comptroller, and was an Honorary Lifetime Member. He is survived by his wife, Katie Gardner; three children, Kristie Klein (Chuck), Jen Franks, and Steve Gardner (Kim) and one grandchild, Foster Gardner. Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Conway with visitation to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Church with Father Robert Cigainero as Celebrant.
