Dr. Eugene Allen "Gene" Joseph of Searcy passed away peacefully an April 11, 2016 at home with his wife by his side. He was born February 28, 1935 in Helena, Arkansas to Hassan and Mary Joseph. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Helena. He attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1961. He practiced family medicine in DeQueen, Arkansas for 12 years before moving to Searcy, Arkansas in 1975 where he started the Joseph Clinic. He retired from the practice of medicine in 2010. He was a member of the AMA and the White County Medical Society. He also served as Chief of Staff at Central Arkansas Hospital, as well as medical director for Leisure Lodge and Byrd Haven. He was involved as a past board member of Searcy Public School System. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class. Gene became an avid golfer, which he enjoyed with his kids and grandkids as well as a very special group of friends. He also enjoyed his time on the lake, whether he was teaching all the kids how to ski with amazing patience or racing to snag that illusive big fish! He always looked forward to the annual fishing trip with his buddies. Gene was a one of a kind physician. Not only was he knowledgeable, but just talking with him made you feel better because he understood his patient. His compassion and caring were beyond compare. It was obvious he loved his profession and people. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary "Snookie" Joseph; sister, Helen Habib of Dunkirk, Maryland; sons, Steve Joseph of Fayetteville, Bill Joseph and wife Dawn of Conway, Tim Joseph of Maumelle; daughter, Terri Langford and husband Tim of Little Rock; ten grandchildren, Nick and Brooks (Michelle) Joseph, Kylie and Courtney Joseph, Aaron, Brian and Caitlynn Langford, Hannah, Logan and Collin Joseph and great-grandson, Westin Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Louise Joseph, and brother, Dr. Raymond Joseph. The family would like to thank Dr. David Jones and Dr. Greg Barden, and the staff of Providence and Providence Companion Care for the loving care he and our mom received during this time. We would like to extend a deep and heartfelt appreciation to Logan Cothern. As it says in Proverbs 27:17,"Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another." The family has requested that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Searcy or the American Heart Association. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
