Lois Darlene Bolen

Lois Darlene Bolen, one of the most kind-hearted souls to ever walk this Earth, passed on April 11, 2016. She was born July 4, 1956. She taught us all how to love. And if you didn't know her, these words will not be enough. Lois had a great appreciation for many things in her short time with us. Taking pictures of her grandkids and The Old Mill, The U.S. Army and Marine Corps., The Peanuts comics, Dolphins, Butterflies, crocheting things with Stars and Stripes, a freshly waxed Ruby Red Cadillac, a Golden Retriever named Sadie that smiles when she is happy, the convoluted storylines of the great Danielle Steele, the simple beauty of David Winter Cottages, and eating Sonic Vanilla ice cream in a cone (always!) in January. These are the things that we will miss so very much. These are the things that are important: Lois Trumble (later to meet a handsome soldier named Lance Bolen) truly believed in the salt of the earth type of tings. She believed in luck and lived every minute with courage. She believed in Integrity and Honor and never made promises she couldn't keep. She loved her family with such a fierce devotion that we still feel her warmth and fervor over the chasms of Ions that now separate us. Lois was a Girl Scout of 32 years, and the family certainly appreciates the irony in the fact that the Girl Scouts use words like courage, confidence and character, while Lois lived and defined all of these things. These are the people that are important: her husband of 37 years, Lance Frank Bolen, who served his country for 22 years and was the first waiting to welcome her home; three children, Sara DeSantiago (Seth Baize), Rachel Womack (Joshua) and Jason Bolen (Elizabeth Natividad), who always took care of their mom; and 11 grandchildren who called her "Grammy", Olyvia, Daphney, Maria, Damien, Angelina, Alanna, Mason, Miranda, Logen, Jesali, and Micah who she will miss the most; Special Aunts Marjorie Freberg & Alice Johnson who made up the "Golden Girls" traveling group, sister, Leann Knapp, niece, Laurie Epifanio, and friends that followed through the deepest valleys and stood by even until death, Verna & SaBrina Bone, Sarah Clements, Debbie Brandon, Lynn Gary, Mindy Baird, and Dennis & Teresa McCormick. We will see you again. Graveside service will be Friday, April 15, at 10 a.m., at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses who have provided excellent care for Lois, Central Arkansas Hospice, and the many friends, Girl Scout Sisters and family members that have shown an amazing outpouring of love and prayers. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Arkansas Homeless Veterans or the Maumelle Animal Shelter in her memory. www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/owens.
