He received the honor of being one of the youngest young men in Arkansas to obtain his Eagle Scout rank at the age of 13. He attended Hendrix College and graduated from Ark. State University in 1969. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon while as ASU and designed and crafted each homecoming float for his fraternity, all of which were animated by mechanical genius and which won honors each year. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Bionucleonic and Physics from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Campus in 1972. He owned Architectural Woodworking, which he considered his greatest professional achievement. He married the love of his life, the former DyAnne Tucker Scott in 1972, and had two daughters, Sarah Beth and Erica, who were the lights of his life. His girls were his heart and his grandsons were his source of joy in life. Rick wanted to acknowledge the gift of a second chance for life after a renal transplant in May, 2011. He wanted to thank the Transplant Department at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, headed by Dr. Scott Young for the great gift of life, as well as the family of his donor, Dr. Scott Rypkema and Dr. Michael Bauer, Dr. Richard Rapp, Dr. Everett Tucker, Dr. John Dunn, Dr. Chris Cate, Dr. James Landers, Dr. Bienvenu, Dr. Mary Jo Shavers, Drs. Ron and Thad Hardin, and Dr. Chen, and the 5th Floor Renal Team at Baptist Medical Center and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. There are no words to describe what these talented medical professionals did to provide our family with the added years we were able to enjoy together as a result of their dedication. May God bless each of you for your untiring efforts and intelligence and compassion delivered to Rick and to us all for the last six years of his life. He used them well. Jesus was so impressed with Rick's old world style wood crafting abilities and talents, that he has no doubt placed him in charge of building the interiors of the mansions for each of us in heaven. His family cannot wait to see what wonderful things he will build there, with the Master of it all. He will be forever missed in this life by all who cherished his wit, the power of his positive attitude, his brilliant mind, and his diplomacy. But most of all his love for his family, babies and children, his love of God, and his love for the great country. He so wanted to teach his long awaited grandsons the art of wood crafting and he wanted to spend his golden years with his wife, camping, traveling and reading and enjoying the simple things in life. He wanted to reach out to others and impress upon all that time is so very fleeting and to impress upon all he knew top enjoy each and every moment of the life you are given each day, one day at a time. Rick was a gift. He was our lighthouse and shelter in the many storms of life and he was loved beyond measure.
