George Samuel "Sam" Jones

Dr. George Samuel "Sam" Jones, age 79, passed away August 2, 2016, while attending a National Rose Society convention in Hershey, Pa He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Newcome Jones; daughters, Nan Cowan (Leland), Lucy Gaines (Jeff), Margaret Moore (Brian); brothers, Murphy Jones, Cris Jones; sisters, Charlotte McKiever, Angie Shelton, and 10 grandchildren. Dr. Jones was a retired Minister of the United Methodist Church. He held a PhD in Counseling Psychology, and masters degrees in Psychology and Divinity. He was active in the American Rose Society, and West End United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, his grandchildren, and traveling. Funeral service will be held 12 pm Friday, August 5, 2016 at West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Ave., Nashville, Tenn. 37203. Visitation with the family, prior to the service, from 10-12 noon at West End UMC in Reed Hall. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, August 6, from 2-3:30 p.m. at Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home in Hamburg, Ark. with burial to follow at Hamburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Rose Society, and West End United Methodist Church.
