Joanne Bryant Oliver was born at home August 6, 1927 in Keo, Arkansas. Her parents Joe and Virgie Burleson Bryant, husband Tony Oliver, and brother Bill Bryant preceded her in death. Joanne was a longtime member of Keo Baptist Church. She graduated from the former Arkansas State Teacher's College, now UCA, in Conway, Ark. Mrs. Oliver received a Master's degree from Bowie State College in Maryland. Mrs. Oliver's interest in the educational and spiritual welfare of children made her a life long mentor and advocate for all children. She was instrumental in getting brother Larry Bryant an appointment to West Point, Class of 65. She taught in public and Christian schools in the D.C. area for over 30 years, before returning to Arkansas. She started a Christian school for children in England, Ark. For 10 years Mrs. Oliver's weekly column, Keo News, appeared in the England Democrat, keeping anyone calling Keo home informed. She was thrilled to be recognized by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in their Style section for her editorial expertise. She was a great source of local information for many genealogists. Mrs. Oliver's son, David has been a constant and faithful caregiver and has made many friends at England Nursing Home. Joanne is survived by her children, Sally Larsen of Grandview, Mo. and David Oliver of Keo, brother Larry (Sue) Bryant of Maumelle, and grandchildren Abby and David Larsen. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 55224, Little Rock, Arkansas 72215.
