Dorthy Mae Smith, 85, of Hot Springs, formerly of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2016. She was born July 18, 1931 in Carlisle to Carl and Tressie Mae Ross. She's a retired lunch lady from the Little Rock School District and also worked for 27 years at Aldersgate Medical Camp. Dorthy enjoyed sewing, quilting, all things crafting, gardening, cooking and spent several years traveling Arkansas as a craft show vendor. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Roy L. Smith, brothers, Jerry Ross and Preston Ross, and son-in-law, Kirk Shaw. Loving survivors include her sister, Velma Louise Lalond; three daughters, Karen Shaw, Carla Merkel and her fiance', Bill Ratliff and Dorothy (Dot) Heitman and her husband, John; grandchildren, Kimberly Shaw, Brandy Hill, Lauren Stricklen, Amanda Merkel, Bradley Merkel and honorary grandson, Nathan Ratliff; great-grandchildren, Harlee, Rain, Ashlyn, Kriston, Ellie and Jacob. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Bro. Joe Thompson officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Butler Cemetery in Alexander. The family extends a special thanks to Heritage Health and Rehabilitation of Hot Springs and Arkansas Hospice for the support and kindness shown to our beloved Mother.
