Carol Ackley Woods

Carol Ackley Woods died on Feb. 11, 2016. She was born was born Dec. 24, 1927 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Sarah Parke Taylor Ackley and Ernest Lucian Ackley. She attended St. Mary's Institute in St. Louis before moving to Fort Smith where she became society editor of the Fort Smith Times Record. She married John D. Woods of Fort Smith on Dec. 18, 1948. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith. Throughout her life she served on many civic, charitable and genealogical organizations, including the Fort Smith Little Theater, The Old Fort Museum Association, the Oak Cemetery Commission, the Junior League of Fort Smith and the Hardscrabble Garden Club. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by two children, Ambassador Anne Woods Patterson of Washington, D. C. and John Davis Woods Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Ernest Lucian "Ted" Ackley Jr. of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Edward Christian Patterson of Washington D.C., USMC Captain Andrew Woods Patterson of Washington, D.C. and John Davis Woods III of Memphis, Tenn., two nieces and one nephew. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 at Oak Cemetery and Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.
