Mother Elteazer Garland Newborn, a life-long resident of Witherspoon, Ark., departed this life on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, Ark. Mother Newborn was born Dec. 15, 1932, to the late Joe and Daisy (Summerville) Garland in Witherspoon, Ark. She attended the Community School in her hometown. Then later met and married World War II veteran, the late Frank Newborn, in Holy Matrimony on March 11, 1946. God blessed this union with six daughters and one son. She was a dutiful and faithful member in the Witherspoon COGIC and Davis Memorial COGIC in Arkadelphia, Ark. She served in numerous capacities such as: Church Mother, Sunday School Teacher and Secretary, Praise Leader, Choir Member, Pastor Aide, and Program MC. She was preceded in death by her two daughters Thelma Jean and unnamed baby girl; four sisters: Dorothy Garland-Jones; Annie Garland-Newborn; Oleader Garland-Newborn and Delma Garland-Greene and three brothers: Birdell, TJ, and LJ Garland. Mother Newborn leaves to celebrate her Home-going, her five loving and devoted children; four daughters: Ethel Davis, Arkadelphia, Ark.; Betty M. Babb (Frank), Mt. Pine, Ark.; Martha Johnson (Alvin), Baton Rouge, La.; Ernnie Flowers ( Derrick), Little Rock, Ark.; and one son, Frank Newborn Jr. ( Nina), Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren: Anthony Deloach, Hot Springs, Ark.; Candy Thompson, Addison, Texas; Crystal Thomas (Daryl), Dallas, Texas; Aprille Flowers and Brandi Palmer, St Louis, Mo.; Kensley and Stephan Johnson, Baton Rouge, La.; Marcie and Kaydee Flowers, Little Rock, Ark. and four great-grandchildren: Kaevon Anthony Frances Deloach, Arkadelphia, Ark.; Kendall and Kennedy Johnson, Baton, Rouge, La.; Michael Anthony Deloach, Arkadelphia, Ark. and Summer Thomas, Dallas, Texas and one sister, Thelma Jean Lemons, Fla.; one brother Bishop Edward Garland, Milkwaukee, Wis., and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, public visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Davis Memorial COGIC, 111 North 19th Street, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, home-going celebration Service 12 p.m., Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 16th & Caddo Street, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
