Gretchen King

Gretchen King, age 68, of Mt. Vernon, passed away February 19, 2016. Gretchen was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Arkansas when she married Fred in 1972. After a career with Southwestern Bell, she retired in 1999. She loved to travel, and her idea of a relaxing vacation was hiking for two weeks in the Austrian Alps. She also loved horseback riding, winning many blue ribbons in the Dressage Arena. She doted on her pets, many dogs, horses, and innumerable Stray Cats lived long and comfortable lives in her care. She will be missed by all, but especially by her husband of 43 years, Fred. Although suffering from Alzheimer's for several years, she still kept a busy schedule, taking several cruises and a final trip to Ireland. She died after a short illness. In keeping with her wishes, no memorial service will be held, she will be cremated, and her ashes scattered in her Dressage Arena.
