Lynn Thomas Benedict, 63, of Glenwood, Ark., passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 in Hot Springs. He was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Tom and Avanell Benedict. Lynn was a loving father, husband, grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend to all. Lynn served four years in the United States Navy in his youth and was stationed on U.S. Navy Destroyer, the U.S.S. Elmer Montgomery as a Boatswains Mate. He also spent more than 30 years in law enforcement serving the state of Arkansas; 27 of which were with the Arkansas State Police. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy; his two children, Coast Guard Chief Boatswains Mate Lance Benedict and his wife, Amber of Ilwaco, Wash. and Summer Backstrom and husband, Randy of Bentonville, Ark.; three grandchildren: Brody, Angel and Gage; one sister, Livia and husband, Bill McCoy of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Carl and wife, Sandy Benedict of Glenwood, Ark.; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; father-in-law, Carl Palmer; and brother-in-law, Jerry Palmer. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at Gross Funeral Home with Brother Derek Barnes and Pastor Tony Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Alpine Cemetery.
