Birdie Lee Childers Neal

Birdie Lee Childers Neal, 92, of DeWitt died January 13, 2016. She was born February 4, 1923 in DeWitt to Claude and Gonzula "Dude" Childers. She taught school at the Bayou Meto School and in her later years worked at Gallery "G" Antiques. She was a member of DeLuce Prairie Union United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Gonzula Childers; husband, Volney Neal; and three sisters, Claudine Culbeth, Margie Hubbard, and Dorothy "Dix" Hesser. Birdie Lee is survived by her children, David Neal and his wife Martha of DeWitt, and Nancy Hollingsworth of Memphis; three grandchildren, Charles Neal and his wife Whitney and Jonathan and Leah Hollingsworth; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Colton Neal; and one sister, Beth Beckwith. Visitation will 9-10 a.m. January 16 at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. in Essex Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Childers Cemetery.
