Lawrence Anthony Castro

Lawrence Anthony Castro passed away at age 72 on July 15, 2016 in Fairfield Bay. He was born in Van Nuys, Calif., in November 1943 to parents, James Castro and Vivian Wilson. He was preceded in death by a younger sister, Lynne, and an infant son, Taylor Randall Castro. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeanne Taylor Castro. Larry earned a bachelor's degree in political science at California State University at Northridge, followed by a master's degree in career counseling/guidance. He also joined Pi Kappa Tau fraternity in the fall of 1962, his membership continuing to date. He was a high school history teacher at Pismo Beach and La Mirada High Schools in Southern California for the next 20+ years and was also engaged in student career and guidance counseling. After moving to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas in 1994, Larry became active as a City Council Alderman and continued in this capacity until his death. He had particular interest in the Fairfield Bay Animal Protection League, serving as a long term volunteer as well as council liaison with the APL. Larry was also an active member in Master Gardeners and National Audubon Society for many years as well as recently becoming a Rotary member. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Fairfield Bay Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills at 11 a.m. at 250 Dave Creek Parkway. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to Animal Protection League (P.O. Box 1460, Fairfield Bay, Ark. 72088), and/or other environmental/animal protection groups. Pet food, bedding, etc., may be directly donated to the APL at 350 Old Quarry Drive in Fairfield Bay. Arrangements entrusted to Clinton Funeral Service.
