Grant Gillis Griffin

Grant Gillis Griffin, 83 of Conway died peacefully Sunday at his home. He was born June 11, 1932 in Faulkner County to the late Minor Afton and Harriet Hall Fowlkes Griffin. Mr. Griffin was born and raised in Faulkner County. He was a 1950 graduate of Conway High School, then attended and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1956. He worked at funeral homes in Conway, North Little Rock, Magnolia, Rison, Greenbrier, McGehee and Star City, which he owned from 1973-1979. While living in Star City, he retired as Assistant Fire Chief and had served as the Lincoln County Coroner from 1959 until 1980. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Magnolia. He was a past president of the Southeast Arkansas Peace Officers Association. Later he was a locksmith for the Arkansas Department of Corrections and was currently working for Yeager Transportation in Greenbrier. He was an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association. He loved gun and locksmithing. He knew many and loved all. He never met a stranger. Of all his earthly accomplishment, his greatest accomplishment was his salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Afton M. Griffin and grandchild, Griffin Irons. Survivors include his wife, Robbie Sagers Griffin of Conway; two sons, Grant Gillis (Dodie) Griffin II of Dumas and Keith Douglas Griffin of Star City; 2 daughters, Permelia (Bill) Griffin Huffman of Hardin and Kayla (Eric) Griffin Irons of Conway; one step-daughter, Angela Montgomery of Conway; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bishop-Crites Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Hugh Austin officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
