Olevia "Gene" McDaniel, a long-time resident of Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away Sunday, June 5th, after a brief illness. Born in 1939 in Seagraves, Texas, Gene attended Amherst High School in Amherst, Texas, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Lewis McDaniel. Gene had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed working at various jobs wherever she landed, as well as traveling to new places. Gene took great joy in good food, socializing with her friends and spending time with her family. She had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh that could light up a room. She was an active member of the community and volunteered for Potter's Clay Ministries and Jackson House of Hot Springs. Gene is survived by her husband, Lewis McDaniel, son, Mace McDaniel of Mason, Texas; daughter, Amanda McDaniel of Arlington, Va; sister, Terri Moss of Midland, Texas; sister, Gayle Barber of Amarillo, Texas and brother, Dan Treadwell of Grandbury, Texas. Gene is preceded in death by her son, Cass McDaniel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Potter's Clay Ministries or Jackson House. Services will be held on Friday, June 10th, 10 a.m. at the Village United Methodist Church, Hot Springs Village, Ark. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
