C.L. "Buddy" Griever

C.L. "Buddy" Griever, 87, of Hamburg, died Thursday, March 10, 2016. Mr. Griever was born in Star City and was raised in Harrison. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1945 and he has been a resident of Hamburg since 1962. Mr. Griever was a manager of retail clothing and shoe stores and he retired as a Sergeant from the Arkansas Weights and Standards Highway Police and the Hamburg Fire Department. He spent 46 years on the Ashley County Fair Board, 32 years on the District Fair Board and 24 years on the Arkansas State Fair Board. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he has attended for the past 54 years. He was a long time member of the Pore Boy Deer Camp where he loved spending time with his friends, Houston Chapman, Slick Higginbotham, Roy Walker Vaden, Steve Yingling and many others. He seldom missed a football or baseball game with his wife, Berry, when there grandchildren were playing. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Griever Brooks in 1997; his parents, Rev. E.E. and Myrtle Aaron Griever and a sister, Lois Etheridge. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Berry Casey Griever of Hamburg; a son, Charlie Griever and wife, Lou, of Crossett; their children, Case Griever and wife, Laura; Larken Reese and wife, Bonnie, and their children, Dallas and Joshua Reese; Lynn Davidson and husband, Chris, and their children, Parker, Dalton and Jagger Davidson; a son, Jimmy Griever and wife, Cindy, of Hamburg and their sons, Stephen Griever and Mark Griever; his daughter, Janet's children, Sarah Brooks Hattaway and husband, Chaz, and their children, Gracie and Ryder; and Cody Brooks and his wife, Brittany, and daughter, Chloe. Funeral services are 3 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are Stephen Griever, Case Griever, Raymond Gaddis, Mark Griever, Cody Brooks and Bon Bergeron. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1:30-3 p.m., Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 352, Hamburg, Ark. 71646.
