KENNETH ROY GATHRIGHT, SR., 85, of North Little Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2016. He was born Nov. 12, 1930, to J.N. and Julia Gathright. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wendell Gathright; and sister, Mary Westerman. He was a Korean War veteran in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Korean War Service Medal with five bronze service stars. He also served in the Arkansas National Guard. He worked as a machinist at Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was a scout master for Boy Scouts of America and achieved the Order of the Arrow. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, and traveling. He was a member of Baring Cross Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. He and his beloved wife, Hilda, went on numerous trips with the seniors at Baring Cross. He was a faithful and loving husband and father, a doting grandfather, a devoted son and brother, and a steadfast friend. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hilda Gathright; son, Kenny (Phyllis) Gathright, Jr. of Benton; daughter, Terri (Paul) Butler of North Little Rock; granddaughter, Sarah (Blake) Lewis; and brother, Gary (Debbie) Gathright. The family offers a special thanks to John Sammons and the Seniors Serving Seniors Organization, Kelly and Michael, Arkansas Hospice, and to the VA Home Based Primary Care team, Joe, Melissa, Kim and Pam for being there every step of the way with his Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22 at 9 a.m. with services beginning at 10 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock; Pastor Marty Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baring Cross Baptist Church or Arkansas Hospice.
