THELMA MARIE (MORTON) HOLCOMB, 95, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Little Rock. She was born on Aug. 10, 1920 in Pendleton, Ore. She is predeceased by her parents, Mable (Main) and Sidney Morton of Longview, Wash.; her husband of 66 years, Lawrence Francis Holcomb of Hot Springs Village; and her son, Clayton Doyle Holcomb of Lincoln, Neb. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Eileen Holcomb Sotomora, son-in-law, Doctor Ricardo F. Sotomora of Little Rock; daughter-in-law, Michelle Holcomb of Jefferson, Ga.; granddaughter, Charlotte Marie Sotomora of New York, N.Y. and grandson, Garrett Wolfe Holcomb of Jefferson, Ga. Thelma is also survived by her sister, Margaret Capen and brother-in-law, Bill Capen of Post Falls, Idaho and her brother, Sidney Morton Jr. and sister-in-law, Delores Morton of Longview, Wash. A strong woman of pioneer blood, she was descendant of settlers of the Plymouth Colony, Dutch founders of New Amsterdam (New York) and of John Maine, the first English settler of the state of Maine. Thelma's childhood was spent in Oregon and Washington. She graduated from Robert E. Long High School in Longview, Wash. She went on to marry the love of her life in 1939. She watched her husband go off to war and return twice. She and her husband had many opportunities to travel and loved visiting the National Parks in the Northwest and Southwest. In her fourth decade, she became a mother to two children and in her seventh decade, she became a devoted grandmother. She remained a homemaker all of her life putting God, husband, and family first. She will be remembered for her baked goods, her garden, her wit, her kind spirit, her belief in unconditional love and her Christian Faith.
