Jannis Bickle Ball

Jannis Bickle Ball born December 28, 1924 in Jonesboro, graduated from Little Rock High School and attended Little Rock Junior College. She died on May 5, 2016 at home in Bryant. Jan was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Jimmy Bickle, and son, Doyne Read Ball Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Hurst (Clifton) of Bryant, Susan Shifflet (Jim) of Little Rock, and Vicky Edmonds (Mackey) of Star City, a sister, Frances Johnson (William) of Little Rock, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jan worked as legal secretary for Tom Jefferson Terral, former governor of Arkansas. Jannis retired from Bryant Elementary after 23 years. She was known as the "pencil lady". Thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Mayfield and APRN Shelley Payne for their loving care of our mother and Dr. Brad Baltz for his exceptional care during her cancer almost 20 years ago. Also special thanks to those who helped care for our mother in the final months of her life–Latasha Jenkins, RN, Andrea Garland, NA, Cynthia Magness, Mae Perrine, and Brenda Carr. Jan was a member of the Church of Christ for all of her life. Services at Dial and Dudley, Bryant on Monday, May 9 at 1 p.m.. with David Brown and Reggie Nalls officiating.
