Bettye Jean Montgomery Henderson, age 84, of Morrilton, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016. She was born on Aug. 13, 1931 on Petit Jean Mountain, Morrilton, Ark., the daughter of Ottis Lawton and Ruby Edith Montgomery. Survivors are her husband of 62 years: Burton Henderson; daughters: Elizabeth Ann Powell (Richard Wayne) of Little Rock, Susan Neal Henderson of Morrilton, Caroline Blythe Taylor (Douglas Wayne) of Arkadelphia; granddaughters: McKenna Grace Taylor and Madeline Rose Taylor both of Arkadelphia; and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Alice Dean and Glenna Belle Suggs; and one brother: bCarroll L. (Monty) Montgomery. While active in many organizations she always felt that her greatest mission in life was to serve God and the thing that gave her life the most meaning and joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was of the United Methodist Faith. Some of the clubs and organizations in which she was active were: Former Legislative Aide to Florida State Senator; Founded the Petit Jean Country Store; Founded Petit Jean Properties, Inc.; United Methodist Women, Life Member; May McClurkin Circle; Petit Jean Mt. Community Association; Petit Jean Mt. Extension Homemakers; Petit Jean Mt. Business Association; GFWC Pathfinders (Past President) and Arkansas General Federation of Women's Clubs; Woman of Achievement Award 1998; National Association of Realtors; Arkansas Realtors Association (Million Dollar Real Estate Life Member Award); Conway & Perry Counties Realtors Association; First Realtor in Conway County to receive Million Dollar Award; Conway County Genealogical Society; Conway County Historical Society; Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce; Former member of Kiwanis Club; Citizen of the Year Nominee from Morrilton Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church at 201 South Chestnut Street in Morrilton, Ark. Burial will be at the Petit Jean Mountain Cemetery. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Perpetual Care fund of the Petit Jean Mountain Cemetery Association at Petit Jean State Bank Account # 133264 and mailed to P.O. Box 680, Morrilton, Ark. 72110. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
