Bettie K. Redden

BETTIE K. REDDEN passed away peacefully on May 27, 2016. She was born on June 23, 1926 in Crawfordsville, Ind., At Crawfordsville High School, she was active in band and the orchestra where she played 1st chair flute. Bettie attended Christian College, University of Montana and graduated from Milwaukee-Downer College with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She met L.D. (Bud) Redden in Chicago and they married on July 17, 1948. She worked as an occupational therapist at Hines VA Hospital in Chicago while Bud attended dental school. They lived in Texas and Georgia before settling in North Little Rock. Bettie was active in PTA. She was a charter member of the NLR Jaycettes and served as President. She was a member of NLR Progressive League and a charter member of the Idlewild Bridge Club where she played bridge for over 50 years. An active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church she was involved in UMW and the George Martin Sunday School class. Bettie was an incredibly loving and outgoing woman who lived a full life. She had a contagious smile and loved to talk! She spent many years enjoying time at Mountain Harbor on Lake Ouachita with family and friends. She excelled at hosting Razorback football and basketball watching parties and annual New Year's Eve parties. She also made a mean lasagna. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.D. (Dick) and Alta Kline. She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Bud Redden, her children Mark Redden (Susan), Marla Gladwin and Scott Redden (Margaret) and granddaughter, Taylor Gladwin. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Mike Church for his extraordinary help and compassion and the many nurses at BHMC NLR who took great care of her. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LUMC or a charity of one's choice.
