Thomas C. Cogbill Jr.

Thomas C. "Sonny" Cogbill Jr. 93 of Star City died Friday in Pine Bluff. He was born Oct. 29, 1923 in Lincoln County to the late Thomas C. Cogbill Sr. and Mattie Williams Cogbill. He was a retired Lincoln County farmer, who has farmed since 1946. He was a Army Veteran of World War II where he served from 1941 until 1946 in the 69th infantry division 271st Cannon Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Star City, Grady Hunting Club, 32nd degree mason with the Branchville Lodge #256, a shriner, former member of the Star City School Board and the Lincoln County School Board, for over 10 years. He was also formerly on the Arkansas State Board of Education for 27 years, and a member of the American Legion, Roy Jason Fish Post. He was also preceded in death by a son, Arthur Lee Cogbill and a sister, Sallye Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Helen Spurlock Cogbill, a son, Tom C. Cogbill III both of Star City, a daughter, Leslie Cogbill Leach (Mike) of Rogers, eight grandchildren, John David Smith, Kasey Cogbill Reid, Sunny Marie Harp, Amanda Cogbill Terry, Cameron Cogbill, Tom C. "Cobi" Cogbill IV, Leeman Cogbill, and Lauren Leach. Nineteen Great Grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City with Bro. Marcus Rogers officiating. There will be no formal visitation. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Star City. Burial will be in Drake Cemetery.
