Lance Heath Duncan

Lance Heath Duncan, 38, passed away Thanksgiving day in Hospice care. He had battled cancer for 36 years. He is survived by his stepmom and heart mom, Marla Duncan of 26 years; an uncle, Rodger W. Duncan (Barbara), Mark Wilson (Sheila); five aunts, Barbara Wilson (Jim), Wanda Fuller, Juanita Palmer all of Searcy, and Oleta Matt and Marilyn Bolton of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his father Montie W. Duncan; his mother, Sharon Duncan Dacus; his paternal grandparents, Vernon and Wyndelene Duncan. Everyone who met Lance was inspired by his courage through adversity. Born Aug. 17, 1978, he endured countless surgeries over the years as he was diagnosed with cancer at 2 1/2 years of age. He was an only child who outlived both parents, who also fought cancer. He rose above his diagnosis by embracing his many blessings. He enjoyed annual trips to the beach, playing golf, riding 4-wheelers and watching hours of Westerns and Dukes of Hazard on TV and helping his grandfather on the family farm. He enjoyed his special relationship with his Uncle Rodger, the two spent many hours together. Services will be private, with burial at Honey Hill Cemetery. Lance will rest in peace next to his father. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an Education Fund to be established in Lance's name. Donations may be sent to First Security Bank, any location in Searcy. This Education fund will give annually to a White County Graduate Student. A special thank you to his many caregivers, Betty Beck, Martha Kirkpatrick, Lindsey Woods, Jan Powers, Lana Clark and Kristy Burress, Lance loved you all! Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
