James Harold Rice, 86, of Springdale, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016. He was born Feb. 23, 1930 in Harrisburg, Ark., to James Harry and Ruth Irene (Sefers) Rice. James was a Poinsett sheriff's deputy and later a Jonesboro police officer before being injured in the line of duty. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also raised beagles and was a Chicago Cubs fan. James was a member of the Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Sanders) Rice; four daughters, Barbara Woods and husband Jerry of Springdale, Peggy Olson and husband Steve of Bella Vista, Cheryl Brady and husband Kent of Bentonville, Cindy Bradsher and husband Jeremy of Fayetteville; three sisters, Pauline Vest and Betty Cole both of Indiana, Brenda Wright of Colt; 14 grandchildren, Carrie Laughter, Everett Woods, Jennie VanEs, Marsha Sosa Crow, Sheri Hicks, Jeffery Kiech, Jessica Ring, Felicia Miller, Karissa Starks, Carolyn Carter, Diane Gorney, Miranda Olson, Amanda Brady, Heather Brady; 35 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Rice, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 24, at Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will be at Brentwood Cemetery.
