Robert Eugene Clawson, 89, of Quitman, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born on June 29, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late Alonzo Jesse Clawson and Estella Mae Craig Clawson. Mr. Clawson served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked for numerous railroads including Rock Island Railroad of Cedar Rapids and Kansas City, Mo., Pacific Railroad of Kansas City and North Little Rock and Union Pacific Railroad of North Little Rock. He was the past Vice-President of LMOA. He was saved in 1934 at the age of 7 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. He has served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, School Board Member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church of Sherwood and most recently was a member of Palestine Baptist Church of Pearson; Mr. Clawson's hobbies included Grandkids, Civil War History, Stetsons, raising Polled Hereford Cattle for 32 years, and, especially, pheasant hunting at his sister Dolly's farm in Goodland, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lon Clawson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Berneil Clawson of the home; one son, Robert "Bobby" Clawson (Ann) of Quitman; three daughters, Linda Clawson Blankenship (David) of Beebe, Joyce Clawson Standley (Russell) of North Little Rock and Jeanie Clawson Hilpert (Gary) of Guy; sister, Dolly Mae Irvin of Goodland, Kansas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Palestine Baptist Church in Pearson with Brother Pat Walston and Brother Tom Hart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in the name of Robert Clawson to Palestine Baptist Church, 389 Edgemont Road, Quitman, Ark. 72131.
