Percy Joe Abernathy, Jr., 88, of Noble Lake near Pine Bluff, died at home Monday September 12, 2016. Born in Noble Lake April 13, 1928, the son of the late Percy Joe and Bertha Lavonia Wilson Abernathy, he was educated in the Linwood and Pine Bluff schools before serving a two year term in the US Navy. Returning home, he farmed his family farm and rented land, then built homes. A carpenter, he then worked for Papco doing construction work at International Paper's Pine Bluff and other mills until his retirement. He was a member of Linwood Baptist Church and Saturday Night Card Bunch. He was a member of Quapaw Lodge #730 F&AM and a former president of the Pine Bluff Carpenter's Local union chapter. Survivors include his wife, Ella Jo Tanner Abernathy, who he married June 1, 1950 in Pine Bluff; sons, D. Scott Abernathy (Melissa) of Pine Bluff, Les Abernathy (Nancy) of McGehee, Arkansas; and grandchildren, Christopher Abernathy, Nicholas Abernathy (Ashley), L.B. Abernathy II (Haley), Natalie Abernathy, and Kari Epperson (Jordan). Services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel. Interment follows in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Robinson's.
