BERWIN LENTON MONROE, 85, went to be with Jesus the morning of Sept. 23, 2016. He was born July 20, 1931 in Fouke, Ark., the son of Nathan & Elva Monroe. He graduated from Fouke High School in 1949, graduated from Salem College in West Va. with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1944 and attended other professional schools. He worked with the Food & Drug Administration, Arkansas Health Department, The Research Center and Medical Center. He and Dr. Rodney Carlton began the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in 1969. Berwin and Winifred Monroe were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1954. He is most remembered for his faithfulness to God, church and family. He was involved in starting and attended the L.R. Seventh Day Baptist Church until his infirmities prohibited his attendance months before passing. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Monroe; son, Jeffrey (Donna) Monroe and their children Joshua (Dawna) Monroe, daughter Nikita; Rachel (Don) Delong, sons Jason, Mark and Liam; Benjamin (Brittany) Monroe, children Jacob and Lillian; Seth (Sara) Monroe; Timothy (Emily) Monroe, daughter Sadie; Caleb (Nikki) Monroe, daughters Katelyn and Annabelle; Gabriel (Kayleigh) Monroe, son Elijah; Joseph Monroe; Sarah Monroe; and Susanna Monroe. Daughter, Cheryl (Dale) Hinson and their children Brandon Hinson; Amanada (Zachary) Hoyt and sons Hayden and Logan. Son Galen Monroe. Son Kerry (Marla) Monroe and their daughters Camillia (Kyle) Estes, daughter Kyla; Meagan (Ryan) Romano. He is preceded in death by his parents Nathan (Elva) Monroe; brothers Lusbert (Judy) Monroe, Glathan (Julia) Monroe, Everon Monroe; and sister, Nateline Monroe and Grandson Josiah Monrow (Son of Jeffrey & Donna). In celebration of his life, a viewing will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, NLR, AR 72117.
