LARRY WAYNE SMITH, 70, of Morrilton, won his 12 year battle with cancer and peacefully entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 11, 1946 to the late Woodrow and Lucille Smith. Wayne was a beloved Husband, Daddy, Brother, Uncle Pooh, and Friend. He is a board member of the Arkansas Trucking Association and the last original charter board member of the Self Insurers Fund, and also served as a charter board member at Petit Jean State Bank. His previous positions included serving on the Board of Directors at LifeWord Broadcast Ministries, Conway County Community Foundation, and Central Baptist College. Wayne was a lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of deacons and church treasurer. He was also member of Masonic Lodge #253 Plumerville, Arkansas and a 32° Mason. With only a 10th grade education, Wayne knew what it took to give trucking a good name and recently celebrated his 40th year anniversary as owner of Wayne Smith Trucking Inc. Morrilton, Arkansas. Wayne was a soft spoken, modest, and kind man who demonstrated the hands and feet of Jesus with a gentle spirit and a servant's heart. Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years Peggy Davidson Smith; daughter, Michele (Neil) Corder of Conway, and children Derek and Raegan; daughter, Tonya (Sonny) Simer of Plumerville, and children Lauren, Mallory, and Morgan; brother, Bob Smith of Plumerville; brother, J.W. (Rhonda) Smith of Weatherford, Texas; brother, Mose Smith of Oppelo; brother, Jim (Doris) Smith of Morrilton; and a host of family and friends touched by such a great man of God. Wayne was a self-made, hardworking man whose values and love of people made him successful in everything he did. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jon Holbrook, Bro. Jim Tollison, and Bro. Jeff Russell officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial donations can be made to Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 896 Hwy. 92, Plumerville, Arkansas 72127.
