Sarah C. Henry

Sarah C. Henry departed this Earth on Monday morning, February 13, 2017 in Little Rock. She was 78 years old. She was born on January 11, 1938 in Smackover, Arkansas to Bessie Mae and Moses Calloway. Sarah C. Henry is survived by her children, Michael R. Calloway and Sandra L. Henry; her sister, Dorothy Welch (Jay); and brother, Leroy Calloway (Emily); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of AM&N in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she received her Bachelor's degree in education. Sarah C. Henry began her teaching career in the 60's. She began her teaching career at Forest Heights Jr. High, teaching middle school English. After many years, she transferred to Parkview High School, teaching high school English. She retired from teaching in 2005. She was very passionate about teaching, and was an active member of many professional organizations – the National Education Association, the Arkansas Education Association, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the AR Council of Teachers of English Language Arts. Sarah C. Henry was a very dedicated member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Interment will be Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 11 am, at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Ave. NLR, Ark.
