Charles Kirk Simmins

Charles Kirk Simmins of Little Rock died at home with his family surrounding him on January 19, 2019. The son of Henry Charles Simmins and Helen Smith Simmins, he grew up in Little Rock. He is survived by his wife, Hallie, and daughters, Hallie Rookey, (Craig), and Helen McMillin, (Rob), four grandchildren, Christopher, Shannon, Stephen (Heather), and Deborah Rookey, and special "children," Lee Washington (Latina), and Mariko Cobb, (Steve). He was an Army veteran. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, he retired from Reynolds Metals Company, and later from Central Arkansas Water. After his family his great love was the Chicago Cubs baseball team. His hobbies included gardening, genealogy, travel, photography and camping. In retirement he organized an "over the hill gang" group that built Habitat for Humanity houses and later worked at the Presbyterian Disaster Relief workshop at Ferncliff. For his Habitat work he was awarded a Community Service Award in 2005. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock.
