Charley Sorrels, 86, passed away on March 18, 2019, at his home in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents , Mary Anna Ard and Charlie Sorrels, his daughter, Mary Miriam Sorrels, and sister, Charlene Sorrels Counce. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Polk Sorrels, his son, Charles R. Sorrels, Jr., (Wanda), his daughter, Kathryn Sorrels Daniel, his sister, Carolyn Rose, his grandchildren, Mary Sorrels, (Lauren), Caroline Sorrels Wallace (Ben), and four great-grandchildren. Charley was born in Marks, Mississippi, went to high school in Hughes, Arkansas, where he was all state quarterback for the Hughes Blue Devils, then to College of the Ozarks, and the University of Arkansas. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, an avid sports fan, and a lifelong Razorback fan. He was President of Hughes Rotary, and a recipient of the Paul Harris award, a lay Eucharistic Minister in the Episcopal Church for 35 years, and a friend to so many. He was a master story teller. His golf group called themselves " the Boys of Summer" and traveled once a year to play new courses. They were always pleased to be joined by Darlene. Charley and his wife, Caroline (Tala) met at the University. They celebrated their 65th anniversary on March 15th. He said to her "We made it." Service to celebrate the life of Charley Sorrels will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 209 Park Drive, West Memphis, Arkansas. There will be a reception afterward at the church. Any memorials may be sent to Holy Cross Church in West Memphis or the West Memphis Animal Shelter, 500 S. Loop Drive, West Memphis, Ark., 72301.
