There's an art to plating food and local chefs served up provisions pleasing to the eye as well as the palate at Thea's Blue Plate Special. The celebration of the culinary arts, held Oct. 17 at the Capital Hotel, was a fundraiser for the Thea Foundation, which promotes and supports the creative arts in schools.

Ray Dillon, the recently retired chief executive officer of Deltic Timber Corp., was honored at the 2016 Arkansas Children's Award Dinner on Oct. 12 at the Little Rock Marriott. The event was a benefit for Arkansas Sheriff's Youth Ranches, which provides stable homes for at-risk boys and girls.

Clear skies and lower temperatures reminded guests that summer is over and a new season of Shakespeare is in the works for next year. Mary Ruth Marotte, executive director of Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, hosted the theatre's fall membership party at her home the night of Sept. 29. The theatre produces a range of Shakespeare's works around the state each summer.
