17-year-old in stable condition after Monday shooting

A 17-year-old is in stable condition after he accidentally shot himself Monday, officials said.

Jacksonville Police Department Sgt. Richard Betterton said the teen is still at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After talking to the victim, Betterton said, police ruled the shooting as accidental. The victim suffered his injuries about 12:06 p.m. Monday at Chapel Ridge Apartments, 950 Military Road in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville police previously reported that the victim was 18 years old.
