Scott Stovall.

Little Rock police Wednesday identified the off-duty officer who fatally shot a man who tried to rob him over the weekend.

Officer Scott Stovall, a motorcycle officer assigned to the city’s Northwest Division, is a 26-year-veteran of the force, Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said in a statement. The department declined to release the officer’s identification Monday, saying they were giving give him some time to cope with the ordeal before subjecting him to public attention.

Stovall was loading a bicycle into a sport utility vehicle late Sunday at the Vantage Point Apartments, 2300 Rebsamen Park Road, when he was accosted by an armed robber, whom he struggled with and then shot at least three times, police said.

The robber fired back once and fled to a waiting car, according to a police report.

The suspect, identified by department officials as Jovon Allen, 21, of Little Rock, died shortly after the shooting. Little Rock police previously spelled his first name as Juvon.

Good Job. Got him out of the way. It could have a family member that ht robbed and maybe shot. The driver should be arested also and charged with a death peanilty.

I think that the officer should be commended for winning the fight!!!And he saved the state from supporting him while he languished in one of our prisons. Even though he is a police officer, citizens who carry concealed and keep up their skills wont be another victim
to these thugs. We need to make our streets safe again. Thanks again, Officer Stovall

Scott was my neighbor for several years and our children grew up together. I just felt compelled to state that he is not only a great officer of the law but a wonderful man. I hope you have PEACE with what you were FORCED to do. I know it would never be easy to take a life but sometimes its you or them. I wish you many more years of success in defending yourself and us as the public.
