State police arrest man in Jonesboro officer-involved shooting

Arkansas State Police apprehended a man on Wednesday who was wanted by Jonesboro police in a Friday officer-involved shooting.

Brandon Johnson was shot by drug task force officers of the Jonesboro Police Department on Friday after he attempted to run them over with his vehicle while the officers were serving warrants at a residence, ArkansasOnline previously reported.

Johnson walked away from his unguarded hospital room at St. Bernards Medical Center early Monday where he was receiving treatment, according to a previous Arkansas Democrat-Gazette story.

Troopers tried to initiate a traffic stop when they saw a vehicle about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 63 matching a description of the vehicle Johnson was in, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said in an email.

Johnson fled southbound into Poinsett County and continued into Crittenden County on Arkansas 61, Sadler stated.

Troopers stopped Johnson using spike strips near Arkansas 118 and Interstate 55, according to Sadler. He was arrested and taken to the Craighead County jail.

Johnson has been charged with fleeing, absconding and aggravated assault, according to the Craighead County sheriff's office inmate roster.
